     Department of Environmental Engineering characterized by combination of science and engineering, has more than twenty faculty members and staffs. In recent years, with aiming at talent cultivation, the department have been culturing post-doctor, doctor, graduate and undergraduate students for more than 200. The department has made a great progress in the basic research and technological development fields of water sediment, soil and groundwater, environmental microbiology and water environment improvements. In recent five years, more than 200 papers have been published in internationally renowned journals, which promoted the healthy development of the discipline of environmental engineering. To meet the scientific and technological needs of the nation, a lot of research work has been pursued in the subjects of domestic and industrial wastewater treatment, , municipal landfill leachate treatment, water biological nutrient removal, drinking water processing and security, development of microbes for special environmental conditions, solid waste disposal and recycling, water environment improvement and river rehabilitation. So far, the department has broken many technology bottlenecks and achieved more than 50 invention patents, and part of them have been applied to some important pilot projects, made significant social, economic and environmental benefits.

    Department of Environmental Engineering have chaired dozes of the most prestigious research projects in China, such as the Major Project of National Natural Science Foundation, the National Water Pollution Control and Treatment Major Science and Technology Projects, the National Science and Technology Support Program, the High Tech Development Program(863 program), the Major Basic Research Program project (973 program) et al.. The relevant research findings have won more than ten Awards, including the National Science and Technology Progress Award, Science and Technology Progress Award of Ministry of Education, Beijing Invention Patent Award.

    Based on the faculty members of the department, several high level research and development platforms have been established. For instance, the Key Laboratory of Water and Sediment Sciences, Ministry of Education (since 2000), Engineering Technology Research Center of New Technologies for Waste Water Deep Treatment, Beijing Municipal Government (since 2012), Drinking Water Safety Joint Research Centre with Ministry of Water Resources (since 2006), Environmental Engineering Certification Laboratory at Peking University,China Metrology Accreditation(CMA) (since 2008), and an international technical cooperation platformwith Singore National University and Oxford University.

     Environmental Engineering department has more than 20 sets of large equipment, such as liquid chromatography mass spectrometry(LC-MS), gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS), liquid chromatography systems, quartz crystal microbalance balance, quartz crystal microbalance accessories, total organic carbon analyzer, also has Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, atomic fluorescence spectrometer, microbial fermentation system, ICP-OES, hot filament CVD chemical vapor deposition system, flow injection analyzers and TOC analyzer, etc. These equipment or facilities guaranteesof teaching and scientific research.

Experienced systematic cultivation of comprehensive quality featured by creativeness as the core, her graduates play active roles in their job position and enjoy great popularity for their wide vision, solid expertise, adept professional skills and adaptability.
