The research projects led by faculty in CESE are mainly supported by Chinese government at central and local levels, such as by Natural Science Foundation of China, Social Science Foundation of China, Ministry of Science and Technology, and other international and domestic foundations and organizations. Overall, in the past 5 years, the faculty in CESE has been in charge of over 200 million RMB of research grants. In addition, the State Key Joint Laboratory for Environmental Simulation and Pollution Control has obtained 19.5 million RMB grants for the research. PKU’s “Project 211” and “Project 985” have also provided 8 million RMB to the college to build laboratory (purchasing advanced instruments and equipments). Selected major research projects undertaken by CESE are presented in Table 1.
