EAAERE 2014 Congress February 12-14, 2014

Growth of the world economy has weakened since the global financial crisis of 2008. Recovery from the crisis is not enough to promote job creation in many countries. The job crises continue in developed economies, and the projected growth pace of developing countries is insufficient to reduce poverty level significantly.

The slow-down of the world economy creates challenges for world environment by making countries concentrate on short-run economic stimulus packages rather than on the measures for long-run sustainability. Fewer resources are available to confront climate change and other environmental devastation. Sustainable development is at risk!

The main theme of the 4th Congress of the East Asian Association of Environmental and Resource Economics (EAAERE) that will take place in Busan, Korea, between February 12 and 14, 2014, is "Toward a New Sustainable Economy". We hope this Congress will provide a very productive chance of discussing the ways to transform the challenges into the opportunities for sustainable development. The sustainability issues in Asian countries under the persisting world economic crises will be discussed by leading environmental and resource economists of the region. Contributed papers on any topic within the field of environmental and resource economics and related disciplines will be considered, as is traditional at EAAERE congresses.
