The Division of Environment at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is seeking qualified applications for a post-doctoral fellow position. The position is available from April 2014 but can start as late as September 2014. The successful candidate will be working on Aerosol Mass Spectrometry (AMS) in both field measurements and laboratory experiments. Other real-time instruments for aerosol characterization including Hygroscopic Tandem Differential Mobility Analyzer (HTDMA), Cloud Condensation Nuclei counter (CCNc), as well as TSI particle sizers (SMPS and FMPS) will also be utilized during those studies. Ambient observations will be focusing on measurements at various sites in Hong Kong (e.g., background, urban and roadside) and nearby areas using AMS and other real-time instruments. More information about one of the monitoring sites that the successful candidate will be working at can be found here: http://www.envr.ust.hk/research/research-facility/background-materials.html. Laboratory experiments will be focusing on heterogeneous reactions and aqueous-phase chemistry in Secondary Organic Aerosol (SOA) formation using AMS coupled with an aqueous-phase reactor and/or a PAM-type flow tube reactor. The initial appointment will be 1 year and can be extended up to 2 years.

A Ph. D degree in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science/Engineering or a related discipline is required. Experience with mass spectrometric techniques is desired. Skills in aerosol instrumentation and/or knowledge in atmospheric chemistry would be a plus. In addition to conducting research work, the successful candidate is expected to participate in supervising graduate and undergraduate students, and to assist in preparing research proposals with new research directions.

Application and inquiry should be sent to Prof. Chak K. Chan (keckchan@ust.hk ). For application, please send a CV and a list of 3 references with title, institute, and email address.
