PROFILE

Prof. Zhang has been studying environmental policy and program, especially in ODS phase out activities since 1998. Zhang has experience in the areas of technical and economical assessment on controlling/phasing out of harmful chemicals, including assessment of alternatives to ODS and POPs pesticides. He established the assessment method based on the lifecycle assessment and conducted the comprehensive assessment on ecological environment and human health effect from chemicals’ production. More attention was paid to how the application of alternatives can affect the end product in energy consumption and efficiency.

His research includes monitoring and photo-chemistry reaction of PAN and H2O2 in air, degradation of POPs, and developing China’s National Plan for Implementing the International Convention on ODS, POPs.
