Organised jointly by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and Peking University (PKU), the Double Master’s Degree in Environmental Policy, Technology and Health is a unique and exciting interdisciplinary advanced programme combining the strengths of PKU in environmental science and health with the strengths of LSE in environmental economics and policy.
About the programme
The programme comprises the Master of Environmental Management at PKU in Year 1, while in Year 2 at LSE students can choose one of the following MSc programs:
l MSc Environment and Development
l MSc Environmental Policy and Regulation
l MSc Environmental Economics and Climate Change
The programme offers an outstanding opportunity for graduate students and professionals to get the state-of-the-art knowledge and skills required to address the great environmental and health challenges of our time. It combines the study of conceptual and scientific foundations of environmental science, health, policy and economics with practical tools of analysis, including state-of-the-art research methods.
Once you successfully complete your studies at both institutions, you will be conferred a Master of Environmental Management at PKU, and either the a) MSc Environmental Policy and Regulation, b) MSc Environment and Development, or c) MSc Environmental Economics and Climate Change at LSE.
Programme requirement
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport. Residents of Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan who have emigrated to other countries and are applying to Peking University as international students must present valid passport or citizenship documents dating from before April 30, 2017, along with proof of cancellation of Chinese nationality;
2. Applicants for Master's programme must have attained a bachelor's degree and students who graduated from non-Chinese universities must hold a bachelor's degree from a university accredited by the Ministry of Education of China. (Grade skipping or joining in the middle of the course is not acceptable);
3. The applicant's academic performance, academic level and language ability should meet the admission requirements of the major he/she is applying for.
How to Apply
1. International applicants should complete the online application of LSE first. According to the requirements of LSE, the applicant shall pay the application fee when sending the application materials, and the fee is not refundable.
2. International applicants must obtain the qualifications for admission to the LSE side first, then log in the online registration system (http://www.studyatpku.com) of Peking University to complete the pre-registration process (Project Code: LSE-PKU 2023)before March 30, 2023. And pay the registration fee of RMB 800 or equivalent U.S. dollars. After successful pre-registration, print the application form and paste the photo.
At the same time, international students who have obtained the offer of LSE should send the following materials to Peking University after completing the online confirmation process on the corresponding registration website of Peking University:
i Peking University Application Form for International Students with an ID photo. Please visit http://www.studyatpku.com, fill in the application form and submit, then print a hardcopy;
ii Graduation certificate and degree diploma (Students expecting to graduate should provide an official letter stating expected graduation date), must be original documents or certified copies either in Chinese or English;
iii Official transcripts of your academic achievement up to present, including courses taken and level achieved, must be original documents or certified copies either in Chinese or English;
iv A 1500-word personal statement;
v Two recommendation letters from your referees. The referees should be professors or persons with relevant academic title. At least one of them should have knowledge of your recent academic work. The format of the recommendation letter must be original documents either in Chinese or English;
vi One photocopy of your valid passport (passport type must be ordinary);
vii Applicants whose mother tongue is not English are required to submit English certificate to prove their English language proficiency (Please see English language requirements on LSE`s website: https://www.lse.ac.uk/study-at-lse/Graduate/degree-programmes-2021/LSE-PKU-Double-Degree-Department-of-Geography);
viii Table of contents and abstracts of your academic publications and any other original achievement in your field;
ix Curriculum vitae (CV) or resume.
Note:
l Applicants need to post the hard copy versions of the application to Ms. WU Zhuxuan (Room 214, College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Peking University, No.5 Yiheyuan Road, 100871, Beijing China) ;
l Unless otherwise notified, PKU needs to receive this package by April 15, 2023;
l All the application materials would not be returned.
Tuition
PKU and LSE charge separately. The tuition fee for the former is 80,000 yuan (a one-time tuition fee for the Beijing academic year), and the tuition fee for the LSE academic year is subject to its announcement that year.
