In the summer of 2013, CESE at Peking University, Copenhagen Business School and Technical University of Denmark hosted the Beijing-Copenhagen Urban Challenge (BCUC) program. The students from both Beijing and Copenhagen participated in this program. The BCUC program is sponsored by the European Social Fund and supported by the embassies of both countries. The project, in the form of 1-to-1 exchange visits of students from Beijing and Copenhagen universities, pays attention to interdisciplinary and trans-cultural communication and exchange, and aims at jointly discussing the sustainable development problems. The teams worked on their challenge for 2 weeks in Copenhagen and 2 weeks in Beijing. Topics of courses given in Denmark are mainly targeted at reduction and adaptation of climatic changes, and several topics are developed centering on sustainable urban development. These topics, in a multi-angle, detailed and specific manner, demonstrates how a developed country gives consideration to urbanization and sustainable development. Topics in Beijing are focused on air pollution. The students discussed the scientific reasons and environmental management behind the air pollution issue.
