National major science and technology program on Lake Dianchi Restoration led by Prof. Huaicheng Guo successfully completed

Project evaluation team

 

On January 14, the State Water Project Management Office hosted an evaluation meeting in Beijing for the completed project of "Key technologies development and demonstration for water pollution prevention and eutrophication control in Lake Dianchi Watershed" (Grant no. 2008ZX07102). Among other environmental leaders, Prof. Wei Meng, the Chief Scientist of National major science and technology program-"Water body pollution control and remediation" and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Mr. Zhiquan Liu, the deputy director-general of the Department of Environmental Science and Technology of Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), attended the meeting and extended congratulations to the successful completion of the project.

 

In front of the expert panel invited from across China, Prof. Huaicheng Guo from College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (CESE), Peking University gave a presentation about the project results and its applications. The presentation was focused on the topics such as problems with respect to environment and economic development, lake water quality degradation and eutrophication, and other serious ecological problems for Lake Dianchi and the watershed. The panel recognized the project innovations in key technology development and its applications for the Lake Dianchi Watershed, and highlighted that the project provides a strong scientific and technological support for solving the problems for the watershed. The expert team then voted and approved the successful completion of the project.

 

Among others, Mr. Zhiquan Liu from MEP encouraged the project team led by Prof. Guo to further strengthen the transformation of technological achievements, and to provide scientific support for the long-term sustainable management of Lake Dianchi. Dr. Yan Zhang, the director of Major Projects Office of Peking University, also attended the meeting on behalf of Peking University and extended special thanks to Ministry of Environmental Protection, the State Water Project Management Office, and other relevant departments, and further assured the expert team that Peking University will continue to support the ongoing work for improving water quality and solving related problems for the Lake Dianchi.
