Location: Room 301, Old Geoscience Building

AbstractThe presentation explores the possibilities of holistic and integrated approaches to achieve equitable, post-fossil carbon societies, which are truly sustainable. Fundamental questions we have to pose ourselves are: What can we learn from historyWhat roles have crisis had as motivators for making changes?

Despite the threatening figures, there is still hope as more and more preventive environmental protection inputs are being put into practice: pollution prevention pays, the Melbourne principles, sustainable consumption and production, the equator principles for sustainable finance etc. Given the trends around productivity and the lack of employee remuneration, numerous models are being used to create more equitable & sustainable communities: place-based companies, worker ownership, social enterprises, traditional Co-ops, B-corporations, community development corporations, land trusts. More and more crowdfunded creative solutions are beginning to emerge, supported by websites like Indiegogo and Kickstarter.     Be a catalyst and role model for change!  All of us as individuals and as-co-workers can help to make the societal changes we need to make in order to transition to equitable, post-fossil carbon societies.
