Abstract: The presentation explores the possibilities of holistic and integrated approaches to achieve equitable, post-fossil carbon societies, which are truly sustainable. Fundamental questions we have to pose ourselves are: What can we learn from history? What roles have crisis had as motivators for making changes?  
    Despite the threatening figures, there is still hope as more and more preventive environmental protection inputs are being put into practice: pollution prevention pays, the Melbourne principles, sustainable consumption and production, the equator principles for sustainable finance etc. Given the trends around productivity and the lack of employee remuneration, numerous models are being used to create more equitable & sustainable communities: place-based companies, worker ownership, social enterprises, traditional Co-ops, B-corporations, community development corporations, land trusts. More and more crowdfunded creative solutions are beginning to emerge, supported by websites like Indiegogo and Kickstarter.     Be a catalyst and role model for change!  All of us as individuals and as-co-workers can help to make the societal changes we need to make in order to transition to equitable, post-fossil carbon societies.

Professor Huisingh is the author or co-author of more than 350 professional publications, books, audio-video productions and simulations.
Professor Huisingh is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the JOURNAL OF CLEANER PRODUCTION
He has worked as a consultant for more than 300 multi-national and small and medium-sized  companies (SMEs) in 35 countries on issues pertaining to Cleaner Production, Product Design, Industrial Ecology, and Corporate Social Responsibility.
He has worked as an Environmental Protection advisor to governmental leaders in 15 countries.
He has worked In or is currently working as an advisor in more than 90 colleges and universities in 80 countries, in helping their administrators, faculty and staffs to, “Green their campuses, courses, curricula, research and outreach in making the transition to sustainable societal development.”
