published date:2014-05-16

Time: 10:00-11:30, May 19th
Place: Room 301, Old Geosciences Building

Speaker: Jian Zhen YU
               Ph.D., Atmospheric Chemistry,
University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill
Introduction:
Dr. Yu is a Professor of Department of Chemistry & Division of Environment, Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. Her research is in the area of Atmospheric Aerosol, including the chemical characterization, source apportioning, formation mechanisms of SOA and analytical method development. Dr. Yu is the associate editor of Environmental Chemistry and Atmospheric Research. She has published many high-quality papers in the above areas.
HUmic-like substances (HULIS), as a major contributor to water-soluble organic aerosol, has in the recent decade received wide attention due to their abundant ambient presence, important environmental and health effects. Dr. Yu will discuss in this talk the abundance, sources and molecular characterization of HULIS.
