“The Hazard Investigation of Induction Period for Safer Chemical Process”
by Professor Mieko Kumasaki from Yokohama National University
Abstract:
Energetic chemical reactions can generate energy in form of heat, gas pressure, and blast in a moment. They have sometimes caused explosions and resulted in tragic disasters. Our interest lies in clarifying the reaction mechanisms to control the hazards leading thermal runaway for safer and efficient chemical reactions. The presentation will focus on the effect of “induction period” during which the reaction does not seem to occur in spite of the reactants are fed. Our new research findings in cause and factors affecting induction period will be introduced.
