“Development of bioluminescence reporter systems to monitor regulated gene expression in higher plants”

by Professor Kazuyuki Hiratsuka from Yokohama National University

Abstract:

To monitor gene expression in planta, we have developed a series of bioluminescence reporter assay systems based on luciferase genes from firefly and click beetles. The systems allow us to conduct non-invasive monitoring of regulated gene expression of plants in response to various stimuli and we successfully applied the system for the development of high-throughput screening and evaluation of bioactive compounds such as plant activators. The bioluminescence reporters were applicable also to the improvement of multi-gene expression technology in transgenic plants. We will present some of our recent progress in bioluminescence reporter gene technologies in plants and their applications.
