PROFILE

His research focuses are on water-sediment environment and ecological rehabilitation of basins, and Land Use and Cover Change (LUCC) and its eco-environmental effects. In the field of water-sediment environment and ecological rehabilitation, with the Yellow River basin as the major study area, he systematically studied the spatial-temporal variation of water and soil loss, the effects of water and soil conservation on ecological water demand, revealed the characteristics of water demand in high sediment laden rivers, and analyzed the efficiency of sediment transportation. He further developed an assessment method based on land use structure by fully considering the spatial distribution patterns of land use types. In the field of LUCC and its eco-environmental effects, with Shenzhen, a typical fast urbanization area as the study area, and by means of remote sensing and GIS, he systematically analyzed the effects of LUCC, such as spatial-temporal variations of water and soil loss, non-point pollutant load, ecological service value and water resources variation. Recently, he established evaluation methodologies of ecological waterway of the Yangtze River, revealed the local envi-ecological impacts from large water engineering such as the Three Gorges Dam and the East Line of South to North Water Diversion. He has published more than 130 papers in peer reviewed journals and coauthored 5 books. He was also awarded several prestigious awards from ministry level to national level.
